Ribs on the grill are beyond amazing but when you can’t grill because of the rain. You have to substitute. So I made my ribs in the Instant Pot and the meat fell off the bone. My husband was like WOW they are so good we should do this way when we crave ribs in the winter. So check out my easy recipe below.
Fall of The Bone Instant Pot Ribs, click here to Pin this recipe.
What you need
2-3 Lbs. Rack Baby Back Ribs
1 cup of apple juice
1/2 to 1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 few drops of liquid smoke
1/2 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp of onion powder
the more vinegar you use the stronger the taste
1 jar of BBQ Sauce (any you want)
How to make
Take the membrane as much as you can off the back of the ribs.
Next rub in your garlic and onion powder.
Then add in your trivet and all your liquid.
Next, place your ribs on the trivet.
Close the lid and turn on for 18 minutes.
After the timer goes off let naturally release for 15 minutes then release any remaining pressure
While the pressure is releasing you will turn your oven on to broil high
Once the oven is ready you will place the racks of ribs onto a oven tray.
Rub on some BBQ Sauce and cook in the oven for 5-7 minutes.
Next add on some more bbq sauce if you want then enjoy your dinner. (optional)
Also if it is a nice day and you are grill already you can you can finish them off on the BBQ, if you prefer.
Hey you forgot the pot I didn’t see it on your list at all. How much pot do you use and when do you add it.
I believe Kassie made this recipe (I’m the other half of the blog!) – she has the same IP as I do, and that is the 7-in-1.
I see what ya did there….
That made me literally LOL… gotta love pot ribs!!!
Smoke another one!
Probably a stupid question but do you include the bbq sauce in the instapot as well? If so how much?
I use before I place in the oven. So it bakes in some.
I am going to make these this afternoon and the only issue is that the broil on my oven is not working right now. So is the purpose of the broil for 5-7 minutes to complete cooking or simply to crisp up the outside? If I must put them in the oven after, what temp should I use and for how long? Hopefully I’ll hear back before I cook them in a couple hours. Thank you.
Yes, it is to crisp up the ribs. If you can place them in the oven at 450 it will work too. It might just take them a little longer.
Can you double this recipe and double the instant pot time?
You never double the time. You can normally put two racks in and do the same time. I do sometimes add 1-2 extra minutes but that is at MOST.
Is the vinegar necessary? I have everything but that 🙁
No it is not.
So you do not add the BBQ sauce to the IP, correct? Just use it after the ribs are out, and before placing in the oven?
I do not add till I place in the oven. I like better that way.
Hello-
I’m still new to the instant pot and feel stupid for asking since none of the other comments ask about it but when you say “close lid and turn on for 18 minuets” what button did you press?? I have my instructional manual right here and the manual says to press “poultry” for ribs — is that what you did??
I overspent on meat today so… really hoping these turn out ???
You will use manual mode.
What is the manual mode ?? Just the pressure cook button ?
It is the pressure cooker button on some machines.
I have a question? Are you cutting the ribs and stacking them on the trivet? I’m planning to double the amount of ribs, if possible! I see some videos that are literally wrapping the ribs around the Instant Pot, no trivet! I’m going to make this tomorrow and thought I’d ask! Thank you very much for any help or suggestions you have to share!
I find it bet to wrap them around on top of the trivet.
I am out of apple juice and apple cider vinegar. Any suggestions for alternatives.
Thanks in advance…
1 Tablespoon of lemon juice
*OR* 1 Tablespoon of lime juice
*OR* 2 Tablespoons of white wine
These were literally the best things I’ve ever eaten!! So delicious and easy! You were not joking, they did fall right off the bone! I’m officially hooked on the Instant Pot! My kids devoured these and begged for me to make them again this week!!
Can you use spare ribs rather than baby back ribs? And will this change the cook time?
Yes, you can use spare ribs and no it won’t change the time.
I’m super new to IP so I have a question…….do you cook for 18 minuets on high?
I push manual/pressure cooker and your pressure cooker setting should already be on high.
You push manual/pressure cook and then most pressure cookers are already on high setting unless you change it.
On my ip, I don’t have a “manual ” button…
What size is your IP????
I have the 6QT
I don’t have liquid smoke. Could you use steak sauce or Worcestershire or something like that?
Yes, you can use that it would work.
I have the 6quart, 7in 1 and I don’t have a manual button…
Then click the pressure cooker button.
I want to add vegetables to my ribs I have them on the bottom but don’t know when to put my cut up potatoes and sweet potatoes. Should I of done this in the beginning???
Personally, I wouldn’t cook together. I would remove my ribs add in your insert and then cook your veggies while the ribs are in the oven.
I’m doubling the amount of ribs (or as much as i can get in my IP). Do I double all of the other ingredients as well?
Yes, since they are seasoning. You don’t double your water.
I want to make this but I am missing the vinegar. Can I sub for white wine vinegar or balsamic? Please help! I wanna make this today….
You can but I would half the amount.
I am really looking forward to making this meal ( side note my hubs bought me 1 hoping it makes cooking easier I’ve only don’t a pot roast so this is coming in handy) I went to the store to buy the specifics I’ll let you guys know how it turns out because I usually slow cook the ribs in the oven allll day but willing and ready to try a new Way thanks 🙏🏻
What is the ribs are frozen, does he time need to be changed?
I would add 3-5 minutes.
I made these last night and oh my goodness!! So good. Fell off the bone. Everyone loved them. Thanks!
Wow, it worked out great.i got the ode looked up recipe picked up ribs and about one hours later done! Then I made second batch.
Thank You 🤓 so much
So glad that you loved. This recipe is so good when cold outside and don’t want to BBQ.
I don’t have a broiler so I use the BBQ grill for a few minutes after I add the BBQ sauce to the ribs to crisp up and make the sauce gooey and stick to the ribs. (I place ribs on foil for easy clean up) Works every time and everyone loves them!!
I am out of Apple juice. What else could I substitute? I would still use a cup of the liquid though correct?
You can use water or a broth.
if I am only using about 1.5 pounds of ribs would I use the same time?
Yes it would be the same time.
What if I don’t have liquid smoke? Can I do without?
Yes of course.
YUM! I made these ribs last weekend and they were so delicious that we have to make them again this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing this easy, delicious recipe!
Oh my gracious! I just made these for dinner. A little extra garlic powder was the only change I made (there’s no such thing as too much garlic in my opinion!! 🙂 ). They were a crowd pleaser at the table this evening. So easy, so quick and so delicious. Will definitely be making then again.
So glad you enjoyed them!
I’m gonna instapot only and then tear meat off bones put in a skillet to warm with some more seasoning to make some pork quesadillas
Do you think I could IP them now and then broil them at dinner time (5 hours from now)? I’ve made these before and they were so good! I don’t want to mess them up by trying something different.
If you cook then put them on a cookie sheet flat and then broil later. I would first cook in the oven for a while to warm them back up. Then once they are warm you can broil the sauce on the top.
