Baked Beans Instant Pot Recipe

So I love baked beans butI hate thinking about what is added to a can of baked beans.  So my first thought, when I got my Instant Pot, was to be able to make staples in my house in a small amount of time.  So I tried out a few ways to make baked beans and here is my favorite way.


Baked Beans Instant Pot Recipe

What you need

1 pound of dried northern beans (I got small beans)
1 cup onion diced up
2 teaspoons of mustard
1/2 cup of ketchup 

3/4 cup of molasses
1/4 of cup of brown sugar
2 cups of chicken stock
1/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
some salt and pepper

How to make

First, you will soak your 1 pound of beans in a pot overnight.  Normally I start to soak them in the morning and but dinner they are ready. 
You will need to discard the old water,  and then add
all the other ingredients in the pot.


Now that everything is in the pot, you will stir the beans up well.
Place the lid on and turn your Instant Pot on to manual mode for 50 minutes.
Once it beeps it is done you will let it stay on keep warm mode.  
Let the Instant Pot naturally release for 10 minutes and after that use, the quick release method for any residual pressure left.  


Open the lid and check the tenderness of the beans, if you don’t feel done cook for an extra 5-7 minutes. 
If you like the way the tenderness is you can let cool down and eat.


  1. I am going to beg u to check your recipe. I made these yesterday and was so excited by them. I opened up the instant pot to find the most inedible thing in the world. 1/2 a cup of worchestire sauce is a ton and the beans literally only tasted like that. I have never made homemade beans but these were just aweful. I am wondering if it should have been a tablespoon but wanted to as for clarification or if this is just a style of bean people like in certain parts of the country. If it is that’s fine I will just try and find another recipe to try. But after I made it and talked to my husband I wanted to see so others don’t make the same mistake I did if it was a mistake.

    • Oh Virgina, you are totally correct. I am so sorry it should be 1/2 tsp not cup. Oh I hope you try again and the come out perfect.

      • I plan to try again but am also going to reduce the molasses I think and maybe the stock. I soaked the beans like u said and I had a TON of liquid. I mean obviously there was 1/2 a cup more then should have been but it was like soup. Lol. Thank u for checking the recipe. I guess I should have asked before I made it the first time but I make a commitment to make a recipe the way it’s written and so I did. I did use very small beans so I wonder if the bigger ones would have soaked up more. So I plan to play around with it. :-).

        • Beans are very odd to me, sometimes they soak up like crazy. Sometimes they don’t. If you noticed a lot of water then yes, reduce and you can always add more if you feel you need.

  2. Made these this past week..1st time for making homemade baked beans..sadly I ONLY made one patch! They were so yummy! Making again tomorrow..taking them to the beach with us..hooing for a double batch this time lol
